Fashion Communication

Study Fashion Communication to understand how fashion is promoted creatively through different media.

Fashion Communication at the School of Textiles & Design is the first degree course of its kind in Scotland.

Fashion Communication concerns the promotion of the Fashion Product or Image.

Fashion Communication is for students who want to work in Fashion but do not want to design and make garments.  They work hand in hand with fashion designers as photographers, stylists, film makers, writers and social media experts.

Fashion Communication is a growth area within Fashion Education, essentially because of the importance of Digital Media and the online presence of fashion brands and practitioners.  In contemporary society, Fashion Design and Fashion Communication are inextricably linked.

Fashion Communication, at The School of Textiles and Design, is a broad programme covering photography, film, graphic design, fashion journalism, fashion styling and image making. The specialist knowledge you gain will give you skills to creative vision to respond to contemporary and cultural issues influencing the fashion industry. You are encouraged to undertake internships in areas that they are particularly interested in.

You will be encouraged to express your individuality and creativity to produce unique ideas for the future of fashion. You will be equipped with the skills and vision to realise your ambition in the fashion industry.

Fashion Communication is always delivered in the context of the marketplace and the client brief. Course content also demonstrates contextual links to contemporary culture in art, film, music, exhibitions, theatre, literature, to inspire new and creative ideas.

You’ll have the chance to work on live industry projects.

In recent projects students have worked with Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh, showcased their work in a Pop Up Shop in Camden, London and collaborated with the band Young Fathers.
