Industry projects

Live industry projects are vital for students to get a taste of what they will face in the outside world once they’ve graduated. We are fortunate at the School to have many industry contacts due to our unique location and our former students, who we maintain strong links with throughout their careers. Our staff also have an abundance of industry contacts who visit the school, give talks and set live industry projects for the students.

WL Gore

Our former student, Lorraine Moffat, is an Application Engineer at WL Gore. Lorraine studied Textiles here at the School and is currently working with the BA Fashion Textiles students on a live project that forms part of their assessment. The students have been given a brief and materials to design and make a jacket which turns into a bag. The designs were to be created for diverse jobs and situations such as: surviving a tsunami, job hunting as a refugee and for members of the defense forces. We had some great results and the winning creation, by Katherine Fleming, was a design for a Paralympian – modelled here by Demi Yuill.
