MA Fashion and Textiles Design


This Masters develops advances knowledge and practice through the exploration of concepts and contemporary topics in design, fashion and textiles.

MA Fashion and Textiles challenges traditional and contemporary uses of fashion and textiles. Through well-resourced workshops, as a student, you will discover new approaches and processes in fashion and textiles.

You will acquire knowledge and expertise in an area of fashion and textiles that is useful for your individual project intentions. Staff knowledge and expertise span the full spectrum from design to manufacture, context to management, technology to creativity and practice to theory.

One of the School’s strengths is technology and there are many opportunities to incorporate interdisciplinary study with other STEM subjects as engineering and physics. Based in Scotland’s manufacturing centre of high-end luxury fabrics, the facilities on campus are outstanding, spanning the traditional and the modern, from screen printing to non-woven fabrics.

You will collaborate to devise creative solutions to real industry problems. Recent projects include a sustainability initiative with Hawick Cashmere which focused on optimising design processes to minimise waste. For those wishing to pursue an academic career, Masters students have also had opportunities to present their work at academic conferences.

Graduates have gained employment in many areas of the fashion and textile industry, ranging from global design companies to product development of technical sportswear. Many graduates also start up their own label and have become known as influential and acclaimed designers.
