Study Abroad

For students based outside the UK

Come and study at The School of Textiles and Design, we have the 'Best facilities in the UK'.

Heriot-Watt School of Textiles and Design offer Study Abroad opportunities. We are one of the oldest textiles teaching schools in the world. We offer world class facilities set in the beautiful Scottish Borders, heart of the luxury textiles industry. The School is based in the lively market town of Galashiels, just one hour south of Edinburgh. The campus is a friendly community with students from Scotland and international students from around the globe, and the ideal choice for your creative study abroad semester or year.

As a study abroad student you will choose courses from across our five undergraduate programmes and your studies will be integrated with our undergraduates.

Our students work closely with the textile and fashion industry. From high street brands to the local luxury textile mills producing ranges for Chanel and Louis Vuitton. You will have the opportunity to work with industry as part of your course work. These industry placements change every semester and respond to what our industry partners needs are.

You will have the opportunity to get involved in key events in the textile design calendar such as Premier Vision in Paris and London’s Design Week.

A number of our courses meet the internship requirements of US Universities. Contact us for the latest course list.

The classes were amazing! Not only were the studio and instructional spaces top-notch, I feel like I learned more than I ever thought I could in one school year. I really enjoyed getting to know my instructors and appreciated their one-on-one tutorials for feedback, but also enjoyed group tutorials and not feeling the same pressure of critiques like we have at my home university. And of course, I loved getting to know my classmates and my flatmates! Everyone was so friendly and really made an effort – I definitely made life-long friends!
